MACS-Lift (Facelift)
Men and women with signs of aging in the face such as jowls, deep marionette lines and sagging necks now have an alternative to a facelift: the MACS-lift. Developed in 2002, the MACS-lift, short for "Minimal Access Cranial Suspension," involves lifting muscle and tissue vertically and fixing them in a more youthful position with dissolvable sutures before gently redraping the skin over them. This is different than pulling the skin horizontally (toward the ears) and trimming it, as is done in a traditional facelift.
The MACS-lift not only provides a more natural post-surgical look than that of a facelift, it is also less invasive, takes less time to perform, can be performed under local anesthesia, and offers patients a shorter recovery period.
Neck Lift
The neck may sag as a result of aging or weight loss, and is often affected before the face. Loose neck muscles can lead to an appearance of bands on the neck or drastic drooping of the skin. A neck lift is a surgical procedure that can smooth and tighten the skin on the neck and provide a more toned and youthful appearance. The results of this procedure offer a significant improvement to the appearance of the neck and subtle changes to overall appearance. A neck lift may be performed alongside a facelift, or may be performed alone, after which your friends and family may not even realize that a surgical procedure was performed.
A neck lift procedure includes both a cervicoplasty to remove excess skin and a platysmaplasty to remove or alter muscles in the neck. Liposuction can also be used to remove excess fat during a neck lift. This takes two to three hours and may be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, depending on the preference of the patient. Most procedures are performed on an outpatient basis.
Chin Surgery
Chin surgery, also known as mentoplasty/genioplasty, is a surgical procedure to reshape the chin either by enhancement with an implant or reduction surgery on the bone. Many times a plastic surgeon may recommend chin surgery to a patient having nose surgery in order to achieve facial proportion, as the size of the chin may magnify or minimize the perceived size of the nose. Chin surgery helps provide a harmonious balance to your facial features so that you feel better about the way you look.
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Blepharoplasty can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. It may be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient's field of vision. Blepharoplasty can be combined with BOTOX® treatments to raise the eyebrows or reduce the appearance of wrinkles, crow's feet or dark circles under the eyes.
The procedure is usually performed in an office with local anesthesia and lasts 45 minutes to a few hours depending on how much work is done. Incisions are made along the eyelids in inconspicuous places (in the creases of the upper lids, and just below the lashes on the lower lids). The surgeon removes excess tissue through these incisions and then stitches them closed with fine sutures. In the case that no skin needs to be removed, the surgeon will likely perform a transconjunctival blepharoplasty, where the incision is made inside the lower eyelid and there are no visible scars.
Rhinoplasty
Primary Rhinoplasty
Primary rhinoplasty ("nose job") refers to procedures on noses that have not had any prior surgeries or trauma. This procedure typically aims to resize, reshape or reposition the tip, profile or nostrils. Common problems corrected by a primary rhinoplasty include removing small humps, reshaping a bulbous tip, changing the angle between the nose and mouth and changing the shape of the nostrils. A primary rhinoplasty is a common procedure that can be easily performed by an experienced plastic surgeon.
Functional Rhinoplasty
Functional rhinoplasty is performed for health purposes to relieve a nasal obstruction. This obstruction is often caused by a deviated septum and may result in breathing problems. Through a simple corrective procedure, these problems can be relieved and a more balanced appearance can also be achieved.
Reconstructive Rhinoplasty
Reconstructive rhinoplasty is performed to repair deformities caused by injury, birth defects or aging. It can also be used to remove external skin tumors or internal nasal tumors. These procedures require extra precision and should only be performed by an experienced surgeon. Aesthetic reshaping is an additional benefit of reconstructive rhinoplasty.
